Wayland Games haven't posted the event yet but doesn't seem to hard to get to. Trains run regularly to Hockley from Liverpool Street and take about 40min. The venue looks to be a short walk from the station.
Depending on the date this may be the better option.

Sheffield is only a couple of hours. Can't be worse than Cardiff surely?

Never been, happy try a new venue but I think Anglia is the closest and hopefully won't require an overnight stay

Right, looks like Wayland games is over two days, 18th & 19th June, one of which is Father's day so is looking quite unlikely for me at this stage (even if the Mrs has said it's alright)
I've checked trains to Cardiff for the 15th and there isn't anything which gets into Cardiff early enough for the 8am planned start which leaves a train the night before and a hostel as an option. I could even drive up and back in the day for Cardiff (I'm Australian, 3 hour road trips each direction are commonplace)
Anyone interested in the Cardiff one or would you prefer the two day event in Essex?

I think Cardiff would be a better option for me too if Essex is over 2 days. Let's chat when I get back. I'll be back down from next week

Nice one, trust you're enjoying your trip and catch you next week. Will look into trains/accommodation and any other options.

Right, I've checked trains to Cardiff and the first one is from Paddington at 6:12am on Sat 25th June, gets in at 9:25.
The venue is 5 mintues walk from the station and Firestorm are asking the TO if they can move the start back to 9:45 to accommodate us.
The train tickets are £40 return and the last train is at 9pm which makes for a very long day but I'm up for it if there's a few of us going.
They would like us to confirm and buy our tickets soon though before they go and rearrange the start time for everyone to accommodate us.
Any takers?
S.
PS I did look at going up Friday night, a 19:15 train is £65 return and accommodation in central Cardiff is around £80-100 which may tip it for some people (not to mention getting another night away from the family)

Wayland in Essex now has changed it to just the Saturday.....don't know if that suits now. 18th June.
Trains are cheaper and times are better.
Don't reckon I can make Cardiff

I think I'm going to have to skip them as I'm on holiday in between these two weekends. If only there was one at Dark Sphere or Bromley. I guess I'm just lazy

So the consensus is Marc and I are off to Anglia for the Regional. Will book some tickets and let Cardiff know we won't be coming down.
