Sup warmahomies!
So I've spoken to a few of you about getting a Tale of 4 Gamers style of blog going.
As quite a few of us are taking to warmahordes I thought it would be a good idea to get something that would help us keep going with the collecting/painting side as well as developing our game skills. So I bring you 'Eagle Gaming does Warmahordes'!
Now the plan is to keep it simple but at the same time be fairly strict or else these kind of things tend to lose steam pretty quickly. So everyone is welcome but you will have to commit to getting your posts up and on time.
Mike will get his friend to create a sub forum for us. There will be a generic discussion thread and everyone involved will have their own army blog thread.
Personally my goal for this is to have a tournament ready army that I know how to shove around. Now that's not everyone's cup of tea but I think having an end goal is a good idea. Mike had the wonderful idea of panning an Eagle gaming tournament one day towards the end of the year. Proper Privateer Press style event with two army lists yadad yadda. Now this will let you either aim very low and just have enough models for a 35 point painted force or be the WAACer that I know each of us has within him and get two fully tooled uber nasty 35 point options.
In order to meet this goal each fortnight you will have to post a continuation in your thread. This will either be a battle report style thing or a hobby progression. At the end of each post you will pledge what your aim will be for the next week.
The hobby progression option can be as large or as small as you want. 'I plan to finish my currently unassembled warcaster' or 'I'm gonna stick these 5 guys onto bases' are perfectly acceptable. But you better stick with it!
The battle pledge is a little bit tricker to clarify. I would love it if people are able to progress from each game and that means you'll have to do a bit of analysis of what went right and what didn't. But like the hobby pledge I want both ends of the spectrum to be viable options. If all you can manage is one game and you don't particularly want to nerd out and go in depth, a very simple overview of what happened in the game would be fine. Alternatively your battle pledge could be to really get to grips with how a specific unit or jack/beast works so you might want to play 3 different games with different combos against different opponents to really 'crack' how to use the unit. Obviously success isn't a criteria but posting up a general feel of how you've progressed would be very useful and interesting to read.
Now, the rules.
So each week you will post one of the above options and outline what your pledge will be for the next week. In the interest of keeping this rounded and to make the known hobby fiends like Sam and Jan actually play some games you can't pick the same option in consecutive weeks.
You will post the result in your own army diary thread and this will be your space. Obviously people should feel free to post congrats or criticisms in other people's threads but we should try and keep any discussions in the main thread so everyone can see it and so we don't get fragmented debates. I.e. If G posts about how he's gotten to grips with using his seraph but Jan reckons he's still missed a trick jan should post about that in the main thread so we can all add our thoughts to it and people who have no idea what a seraph is can learn.
To give people some wiggle room though everyone gets two 'outs'. One week you can just bail on your pledge. You aren't going to get your game in or the painting challenge is way more of an arse than you thought it would be you get one out. Also once you can pick the same option you did last time round. Can't get a game for a month? Take double hobby time and stay in the project.
After a discussion about penalties I've decided to not have any at the start but be warned I will happily implement them later!
In the interest of fairness and to keep people at an even footing at the start the first battle pledge has to be with your chosen factions battle box. Proxys are fine so if you don't like the units you get in the starter box don't feel that you have to buy it but those were selected by PP for a reason, they're a good place to start.
Fortnightly might seem pretty spread out to some people but I don't want to have too much pressure on people. Please feel free to use your personal threads as an army blog and post up whatever wip you have going on or musings on any games you play.
I'd like to get this off the ground fairly quickly and a Jan gets back from the wilderness in a couple weeks so we will kick off our first pledge posts then (if you'd like to write up a fluff intro for your faction that would be awesome, I plan to but it's not everyone's cup of tea).
The finish date is up to you guys. I was thinking mid December as that's near enough that it's apparent but not too close that there's a rush. Thoughts?
If you're interested please post below with your real name and your planned faction.
