So I'm assuming everyone's had a gander at the AoS warscrolls by now. Dan's started a thread to discuss that so we should keep that discussion over there. Like a few people I want to give AoS a test run, but while it might be more fun than I'm anticipating I don't think it can convince me that the following things aren't true:
- WFB is my favourite game.
- AoS isn't WFB.
I'm assuming there are a lot of people in the same boat. If so, I think we should organise to keep the WFB scene at the Eagle healthy, and that that will hopefully be doing our bit to contribute to a healthy scene across London/the South/the UK.
Throwing every idea in my head into this post, even the silly ones, here are the things I'm thinking of.
- A club campaign. I ran two of these before, the first was quite successful, the second trailed off a bit. With a simple round-robin style structure, some narrative elements, maybe an escalation format (so the armies get bigger each round), and definitely a big bash at the end, this seems to me like it'd be a good way to bridge the gap between the tournament players and the casual players we've got at the club. I'm definitely in London until September, I'd have time to run it if we made it fast-paced.
- Waaaaghs. These were great, we should resurrect them and advertise on TWF. We could choose our own comp, and they'd help bring new blood into the club too.
- Boards. The state of the club's scenery has gone downhill a bit. We ought to spruce it up and make some nice boards.
- Club books. We've got some bookshelves at the back but they're full of Black Library novels and the like. If we've got club funds sloshing about I reckon we should get ourself a little library of 8th edition army books and rulebooks for anyone to use. We don't necessarily have to pay full whack for nice copies, we could just buy ringbinders and plastic holders and print off the pdfs. It's not like GW are supporting those products any more anyway.
- Club armies. A lot of us keep our armies down at the club and are happy to lend them to friends. Why not go a little further and have some armies owned by the club? It would let those of us without the time to paint up a new army get some variety in the lists we play, it'd be great for an Eagle Games team if we went to any team events, and it'd mean that new players could just rock up and pick up an intro army without any need to get permission from someone they don't know. We usually have at least one table unused at club nights at the moment; why not stick a paint station in the corner? Let anyone who wants to stop by spend a pleasant evening with beer and a paintbrush, painting up their own unit for the club force.
Those last two ideas are maybe a bit far out - I don't know the state of the club funds. They wouldn't be exclusive to WFB either, we could easily do the same for 40K or Warmahordes. Anyway I thought I'd just write down everything that came into my head and people can discuss which bits seem sensible.
