Now we've got through a campaign, I'm interested in trialling some skirmish games. I know a few of us have the core set and some expansions so drop me a note if you'd like to run a few skirmish games. From most reports they play quite well and good fun.

So, I've taken the plunge and signed myself up to two imperial assault tournaments in the next 4 weeks (on top of the x wing team nationals - go Eagle Squadron!) The first one is this coming Sunday (13th), at Darksphere - 3 rounds of Swiss. The second is at Leisure Games on 3rd October at Leisure Games - 4 rounds of Swiss. im hoping that my experience gm'ing the campaign back in the Spring will help me having not played skirmish mode! I think there are still spaces for both tournaments so anyone interested feel free to join me! Entry to each is a fiver.

Good luck Matt, I'm sure you'll come back with the loot.
Let me know if you want some warm up matches.

So, in the last month I've been to two seasonal tournaments - the first at Dark Sphere, the second at Leisure Games up in Finchley. The first tournament had 4 players and the 2nd had 3 players (both including me), so the standard Swiss format to the events was replaced by a round robin.
I had mixed success; the Dark Sphere event I finished in last place having lost all 3 of my games, whilst I managed to learn from a lot of my mistakes and won both my games and ended up first in Finchley (taking plenty of loot with me).
I revised my list following the first tournament, having found that my Kayn Stormtrooper blob was a bit too squidgy vs. elite rebels and didn't cover enough ground. In the second event I swapped out Kayn and some of the storm troopers for Boba Fett (as a v. cool, manoveurable character) and one unit of Royal Guard.
After 5 games of Imperial Assault skirmish, I think its got potential to be a really fun game as long as people stay away from the handful power lists out there all the time. Having said that, I think that's common for a lot of new games that have a limited unit count and having seen what FFG have done with X-Wing over the last three years I'm confident that this will only be a temporary thing. The bits I'm liking most about it are:
- There are already a wide range of skirmish missions available. This adds a nice amount of variety and different challenges. This adds quite a bit of longevity to a game that atm is in its infancy and waiting for new units;
- Games are 55 min + 10 min set up and its a pretty fast paced game. As with X-Wing, its easy to get 2 or 3 games done in an evening at the club;
- As with all of the Star Wars games there is a strong IP behind the game with some good mechanics. Being able to play some of your favourite characters is great (Han, Chewie, Luke, C-3PO, R2-D2, Vader and Boba Fett are all out in the first two waves, along with some others).
- The skirmish rules for different characters also really suits the background. Using Boba Fett on Saturday I felt that he was great at picking one target and chasing it down (which you'd expect from an infamous bounty hunter).
- All of the units cross over to the Campaign mode, which is a lot of fun as well from the campaign I gm'd in the summer (I'm planning to start the follow up in November).
All in all, I will definitely try and attend a few more Store Events/Championships as they come up and am more than happy to play some games down the club/give intros to anyone interested.

Nice one, glad to hear you're getting some wins in and getting a feel for it.
I've played 1-2 knock up games with Aidan (he's five) without the command cards and was quite surprised how quickly the game played and close it could get with the mission objectives.
Painting the minis is good fun too, just finished a Nexu.
Anyway, keen for a couple of games now the tourney season has died down and we are waiting for wave 2 of Armada. Have an Imperial Class Stardestroyer on order which will be seeing a fair bit of table time in the near future (hopefully when it arrives)
