I've spoken at length about the various projects I've failed to do anything with. Much of my gaming has been taken up with X-Wing anyway and nobody paints figures for that do they Jono.
Having said that I've been inspired to break out the paint brush for the first time in ages after probably spending a bit to much time playing warhammer on the computer. I even (shock horroe) took a picture of my cack-handed efforts.
Which leads me to a question for the more IT savvy amongst you. I'm assuming the way you've managed to get piccies on here is to dump them on photobucket and then perform some kind of witchcraft - am I correct? Or have I missed a step?

Yo. It's easy - upload the pic to photobucket. Select the picture and on the righthand side there is 3 different links you can use - click the 'url' one and it copies to the clipboard. Just paste that into this forum. Vola.

So for the first time in what feels like years probably because it has been)this week I played some 40k, using the Kill Team rules. Over a couple of games against Chris and Ollie I used a squad of 5 Tactical Marines led by veteran Sgt with power sword and a guy with a melta, a rhino an 3 bikers (one with a flamer).
It turns out I don't really remember the rules, which didn't help the cause but both the games were quite entertaining, particularly the game against Chris who managed to snatch a draw even after nearly all his force ran away.
So what did I learn? Well my distant memories of 40k say marines just don't hit hard enough and go down quicker than you'd think. The same was true for kill team. 3+ armour is great until a heavy weapon or three open up and I had far too many bolters on the table which, whilst a decent gun, just don't get the job done. I also learnt that bikes are now entirely stupid, being able to ride up sheer drops with impunity most of the time. In a game v Ollie one of my bikes went up the side of a three storey building to nab an objective.
For my next games I'll need to give some thought to the approach I want to take. If I stick with a small, elite, force I need to pack in the toys. Alternatively I go numbers heavy and bring out the orcs or guard. Either way the not so happy medium I was using really doesn't get the job done.
Until next time

And next time was such a long time.
Now my playing time is going to be limited I want to get on with a nice painting project. The issue I have is I get a bunch of ideas, get excited and start buying stuff but never get on with it. This time will be different - honest (erk).
I'm going to try and keep myself motivated by doing some pictures and keeping a record here of what I do.
So what's the big idea?
I'm going to do I force made up of units I want to paint, rather than anything that will be competitive. I also want my army to be story driven so I basing it on a theme. The plan is to build a chaos Space Marine army for 40k.
I'm not giving myself deadlines to hit so painting doesn't become a chore, so lets see how well (or badly) I do.

My test model is complete.....drum roll, if you please. The yellow didn't quite work but overall it looks ok. I just need to decide on a story arc and get going with my main force. I've done a space marine force before which explored the quest for knowledge and the unease of following an emperor who lived by feeding on souls. This time I'm leaning towards exploring the protective side of chaos. Namely Nurgle. The idea is (much like a sports coach) Nurgle and the Lords who follow him expect their followers to put their bodies on the line when it matters. But he won't be wasteful. Indeed Nurgle seeks to protect his followers from the very plagues he blesses them with. The best way for a small, hopefully, growing force to maintain itself is to be designed for small attacks with limited goals. Significant use of vehicles to add pace and protection would also help. My first step will be to put together a squad of 5 basic marines and a leader (name to be decided) and then I'll see where the story goes from there.

It took slightly longer than planned but the first 5 guys are up and running (I still haven't come up with a good name for anyone yet so answers on a postcard).
Sadly at the time of writing Photobucket is having a hissey fit so I can't upload the photos showing I've actually painted something (I have honest guv). So with 5 chaps painted and ready to go the next step is to take the logic actions any would be warlord would take - get more men. 5 Guys won't cut it unless I just want to flip burgers so more marines need to be recruited and then it will be time to get them some wheels so they can start hunting some decent targets.
