So it turns out that while Circles don't end, they can be passed on! Matty has taken stewardship of the mighty druids & wolves, and is already doing better with them than I did!
Meanwhile, I have seen the light and joined the elite minds continuing the great work of the Maiden of Gears. Convergence is a nice, compact faction for a newbie to war gaming, and having picked up a great deal on about 75% of the models I'll ever need it feels far less overwhelming and I'm much happier getting more into the game.
Had a few games so far with Syntherion, the Swiss army knife of my casters and am really enjoying him. First up was a 50pts game against eTom and his Cryx Witch Coven and their Leviathan. I brought the Prime Axiom, a bunch of vectors (jacks) and services (floaty balls of various kinds with utility stuff), had only a vague idea what I was doing and suffered a loss. There was a rather cool round of colloidal fisticuffs though, so all good.
Lessons from that one, I need to remember all my weird rules (field marshall, induction, vector mat/rat), actually use my synergy bonus when I have it, learn how to allocate focus, and how to use my services better, and probably a few more things!

Secon game was against Matty with my old forces, how quickly they turn on you! He'd added to their ranks already, bringing a unit of Skinwalkers with their Alpha UA, and putting Kromac2 at the head of the charge along with a pair of Stalkers, a Gorax, a basic Shifting Stones unit and a Druid Wilder at 35 pts.
I ran Syntherion tier 4, with his trusty Corollary, 1 unit of Optifex Directive (think Menoth choir, except far more balanced!), a pair of Ciphers (heavy vector with some nice shooting utility and hefty melee hits), an Assimilator (another heavy vector, more shooting including a ground pounder option, and decent melee) a Diffuser (light vector that has a gun with beacon to increase threat ranges) and his free Galvanizer (another light, just a basic melee atack with an option to repair other things). The rest of my list is a bit fuzzy in my memory but I think I had a couple of units of Attunement Servitors which throw flares around to reduce enemy defence, since my MAT/RAT aren't particularly stunning and an arc node solo.
We had the good old turn 1 run (with Syntherion getting his upkeep spells out), and I planned to get my arc node up to a place where I could throw Magnetic Hold onto them next turn (-2 Def& -2 Spd so no charging). On turn 2 I failed to hit with the spell, as I'd forgotten to throw my flares out first (annoyed grunt) but did shoot out a stone so no teleports. On Matty's turn a Stalker ran in and managed to take out my Cipher, though it was Reconstructed safely 3" away due to Syntherion's upkeep spell. The other wolf took out the Diffuser and Galvanizer before sprinting away to the cover of a forest, while the skinwalkers killed my arc node and most of my servitors, and still left a lot of my vectors engaged, with his remaining 2 stones shifting to block another of my heavies.
That left me hard pressed to get to anything of real value in his army, though I'd probably have had better luck if I'd actually remembered to keep track of my Synergy bonus, again! I repaired up the reconstructed Cypher and recast reconstruct on it, cleared a few skinwalkers and possibly the stones, but couldn't get any charges going and don't think I managed to get to either of his wolves, so the turn was a bit of a loss. Matty's turn 3 left the stalker nearest my army frenzied, which could've been an opening for a comeback if he didn't manage to clear a hefty chunk of my army, Skinwalkers nearly finishing off my Assimilator, Kromac himself wiping out one Cypher and the non-frenzied wolf killing the Reconstructed Cypher again, which got back up, again.
I made a last ditch attempt to get Kromac now that he was so far forward with only a Gorax in the way, and can't quite remember whether my vector died to the Gorax' free strike or whether it just couldn't do enough work to Kromac (I think it was the latter, and that I had forgotten Synergy AGAIN!) but that failure left no hope for the guys in grey and I conceeded the match.
Similar things taken from this as from the first match, only at 35 points it was easier both to try correcting some things and to see the impact of others. I had better success using my field marshal and other repair abilities (Cypher took about the same amount of boxes as a collosal before finally going down!) and realise that I'm throwing my Servitors away too easily - they're cheap but most aren't good army screens, and they're more useful if I keep a few alive!
Still need to remember Synergy, and work on my focus allocation/turn order planning.
