Or how I got a circle force actually painted and started to play less badly And Tom's urging editing this to add a bit more about me. dunno why, the toys are much, much more interesting than me. Especially to the plastic/resin/pewter/white metal junkies you all will be! Painted, unpainted, based or left bare to annoy people it doesn't matter, you just want em all!! (No really, Tom insisted) So, I'm Alec, usually vermillion or Ver on forums in various places and started gaming too long ago. Few breaks here and there past 5 or so years have been mostly warhammer fantasy (not 40k, never 40k since 1998). Had been interested in WMH years back seeing the Circle stuff in metal but didn;t know anyone where I lived who would have been up for playing, but upon hitting London got round to nabbing the two player set thankfully now in plastics as I've a knackered spine (Seriously, Tom did insist! He's bossy on the quiet isn't he?) and discovered I have a knack for sucking at WMH! Despite sucking really enjoy the game and over a couple of years now I've got a decent amount for 4 factions and nabbed most of the all in one boxes. Ain't Xwing players cute with their "mistakes were made"? (Tom even threatened to not let me play, he's a meanie isn't he?) Usually play at Dark Sphere and Cross Gaming Club and am hoping to become a press ganger. I might suck but I do know the rules, well, mostly, and really enjoy the game. Been running a slow grow at Dark Sphere and have a second planned to go from the 35 points to 2x 50 points hopefully for people who want to play competitively. Last year body really rebelled on me, started shaking, pain got worse blah blah blah (Still no plastic crack, you said there'd be plastic crack Alec...) so been getting back to it lately and this is the perfect excuse for to get my stuff together and get most of a faction painted. Probably. I'm aiming to not take on commissions for the rest of the year (aiming, yeah, aiming) and get some of my own stuff done. Got accused years ago of being a prefectionist in painting my stuff, which I can see as I'm never satisfied with my painting level and want to always be better. Did speed paint a battlebox, however didn't like it, so have restarted them. This week I hope fo have the feral and either Kaya or the regualar argus done form the 2 player box. Possibly the second argus as it;s far superior to the winter one. I'll get the photos uploaded when I find the camera!

At toms insistence, edited the initial post thingy. Mainly as I had for got to before. Erm, oops? So those WiP shots of the Feral: Seems my usual luck of a decent shot on auto hasn;t really worked, had to use dakkas auto adjust for these ones and the next lot to get details up better. Had taken em in daylight but still cam out meh. Chose to start on the feral as it's a staple of the battlegroup, can find a spot in a lot of lists, I like the simple but useful warping options it has. Arm 20 with Kromac and an armour warp? Oh yes! Hunters mark something, warp for speed while under lightning tendrils from Kreuger for reach? Mwahahaha 15 inch of threat range! Plus it's kinda iconic. Was going to go greys across all the warpwolves but decided for this one I'd aim for a little of realistic wolf colouring with added challenge do it all by brush past undercoat and base coat to get my ass back into doing stuff. worked not bad, I'd still love to strip it and redo it, might do that after painting two factions, but maybe I'm being overly critical. For the skin wanted the grey in there still, so used that to add highlights to the basecoat, and going for a winter theme so the blue on the armour fitted well, wanted a rich deep blue rather than an iseblue which will probably end up on most capes etc. Next up a bit of progress on it so you can see where it ended up with the armour done and little more highlighting. Can also see now that there is paint on it, also missed some mould lines in the bloody PVC. And I thought I did not bad getting them Also done him a friend, also mainly battle box orientated, but I like the regular argus. Nifty animus which comes in handy, the combo bite is handy for a P&S 16 hit fast with high def and doppler bark can be useful if you can hit. He can also slam and headbutt, which is another important thing. Loss of a 4 point argus while getting them done, normally not too bad. again, lighting, way too dark in the pics despite being outside to get the layers showing. I'll be trying again, but wanted to do the update. Accomplished finish the warpwolf, and done an argus, next up probably a caster, second argus type and a stalker and some basing.

Looking good Alec! The dark blue highlighted up contrasts well with the brown grey fur.
Looking forward to finding out what they do on the tabletop!

Thanks both. Trying to get some better pics, especially of the Argu, even outside been having difficulty getting stuff showing up, might have to get round to making a makeshift lightbox etc for it. Should be down thursday hobbling permitting! This week my aim is to have bases done for Sundays Tournament to the point they need wintery grass added to them and some snow added. This should be 10 30mm bases, 7-8 40mm bases and 4 or so 50mm bases. Won't be done amaing just ready for sticking models on before the next step afterwards. They are the resin scibor Celtic ruins bases, spent most of yesterday doing with brushes most of the day what I could have done in twn mins with the airbrush, DOH! As the stretch goal winter argus and kaya repaints return with PKrueger replacing the argus which got done. This week Migraines seem to be the norm hence only one extra goal got done, hoping they bugger off or ease off enough I get a couple of extra things done Anyways a quick popping outside to take some pics of yesterdays no brain needed work on em.

So after three days where all the painting I pretty much got done involved washes and drybrushing the bases were finally finished off last night! So this morning put some stuff on two of them! And got the flash onto the argus, hopefully show that I DID highlight it... even if the colours will be off Next up need a load more bases doing for when stuff is painted. Also need to decide if the infamous black for druids would remain black in the winter or if they'd get the greys and whites out to bland in a bit. These Circle folks, they're squishy so need all the help they can get! Current plans are repaint Kaya and the winter argus with a second argus and get a stalker done as well as a lot of undercoating. Failing that more stuff for the Kreuger list I've been playing with lately and quite enjoying!

So had a couple of games at Dark Sphere yesterday too (don't think that counts? ) But performed okish. Got shown the earthbreaker assassination which was wtf, didn;t get a turn two! Second game rematch v the same list was down to the wire until I screwed my activation order up. After that Pkrueger was shot off the table again. Third game faced the now infamous lich2, epic Asphyxious. He is a nasty bugger of a feat (put ten banes with 3" on him, they can move and attack then dissapear at the end of the turn, cannot be targeted by free strikes and are ghostly so walk through walls...) a good spell list and REALLY beefy stats. High def, good armour, insane levels when he camps all his focus which the guy ended up doing most of the time. Tough game and we did 7 minute turns, with one 5 minute extension when a player wanted so going to concentrate on that aspect of the game and waffle on about a little. Normally though you are aware you don't want to taje too long ina turn sometimes you do stop and pause and time can fly by. When there's a clock you get acutely aware that you need to be fast. With that in mind you can sometimes forget something, my big mistakes were targeting something else when I should have targeted another thing to start removing a UA and forgetting to cast lightning strike on the warpwolf stalker which lost it to banes. Both of them were entirely a not thinking fully need to act fast moment thinking. Ofcourse tough banes too, and last week v menoth tough model AND matyrdom from harbringer. Both ate into my time, but seems not all is lost on that count. When your opponent is doing the tough rolls/deciding martyrdom, checking your cards etc pause the timer if it is timed turns, or in the case of a 60 min death clock, swap the clock to them. Last wek especially I'd say 1-2 mins easy on tough rolls an deciding to martyr may have been lost. Even just the one minute would have been two activations with attacks from beast or three/four movements and a declaration of "I'm casting x, y or z" or similar. Lesson learned there chatting to people and looking around online . Luckily the people I played last week and this week were among the more decent of folks and great fun to play against. In addition to the cheeky moar painting pledge which I have managed in case anything went wrong with my body this week the gaming pledge was going to be "get more a grip on the pkrueger list and ask around what seems to be the stuff my nemesis factions worry about from my faction." Just by defaultly playing the pKrueger list (ekrueger not been practiced yet worryingly) I've done that and had some nice helpful messages and advice about my two planned lists for Sunday. If anyone is interested in the waffle and the lists (I'm not expecting to do well this weekend at all so happy to chat away about my lists) then prod and I shall share the few nuggets I have learned. Thursday evening coming hopfully get to meet some of you guys and get a game at Eagle with one of the lists and maybe have 3 painted models in the case!

So last weeks "Get to Eagle club and play a game at any points level", check. Pledge done. Had mentioned with my hobbling around being an hour to hour difficulty some days I was going to stick up two pledge one hobby, and other gaming each week, just in case yesterday. So next pledges, main one is hobby as last should been gaming, and that is to get argi, arguses argus'? Dunno what the plural would be done. Stretch pledge Stalker, Kaya and Krueger one. Gaming (my backup if the shakes kick in again or migraine knocks me wtf for a week like last week) and that is play in the tourny this coming Sunday. Does that count? If not then it will be help a mate get into his legion a bit more! So gaming wise this week, Thursday was an eventful day. Aside from nabbing some paints for getting cold wintry colours done I played two games. The first at Dark Sphere against Daniel who works there. Daniel has not long started WMH too, he started with Circle also and with the battleboox and all in one combo. He has been using mainly the all in one with a couple of tweaks, so shoehorned into what models he can use. Played Daniel a fair bit, and have helped him learn what his models do, what their limitations are, rules ranging from simple what concealment is, cover, power attacks onward when he has needed a bit of help wrapping his head round em. Then I rapidly forget the rules myself . He's come a long way now, initially (it is his first tabletop game too) he took a long time over his turns, was always unsure about stuff. Now he is faster with them, still a little indecisive with things but has a LOT more confidence now, and has as I assured him he would, got quicker in his turns. Couple of other people have also helped get him to this point, but was very proud of his record the past week. Tuesday he won V a circle player and Thursday he beat a filth Skorne list and my circle at 35 points (with a few discussions as we went still, but meh). Lost there, but so happy to see Daniel winning and doing so well. His perseverance with sticking with pretty much the same core of the list and caster has paid off dividends for him! Why waffle on about that? 1) It is gaming related, my last pledge was gaming related in my WMH adventures. 2) It's also hopfully going to help inspire you who is reading this. Persevere. WMH you WILL lose a lot. A hell of a lot. Until you get the hang of stuff, then look again at your list, see what you like and dislike about it and so on. Also remember, the standard is run two lists side by side, choose one to play. There are hard counters out there to lists, so anything which would be an all comer list is frankly, weak at a lot of things as it doesn't do one well. Possibly one of my mistakes. But yeah, keep going, chat with people, read up online, listen to podcasts. All of those can help you improve. Hell arrange no win matchups as you know the person is simply that good, chat afterwards, ask them what they were worried about in your list, why, in your faction, why, how you might have used stuff better v their faction/list and so on. I'm just sorry in my state I cannot shake some pompoms to cheer you all along So second game was against Jan and Legion at Eagle! A dirty faction, a filthy caster in the form of vayl2. Standard legion filth beasts faced off against me aside her, with some infantry and spawning vessel support. Was going to drop my Krueger1 list regardless of what I faced and this one was the slow grow list I ran, standard stalker and feral druids and 2 blackclads. We played a three flag scenario with steamroller setup. Important thing here was the counter magic ability on the druid leader. It stopped Jans infantry being able to use theur magic attack and Vayl2 being able to use spells against me. All in all it was probably a bad thing at 25 points, maybe too skewed v Jan, but he played well. He remembered the apells to hit and run better than Circle (I'm looking ta you privateer press...) and other tricks, like the tip I gave him on his spawning vessel. He lost the Angelius early on for a druid, holding his infantry back with reservedly, but kept pressure up shooting my feral with his ravagore. When the feral was dropped after I had advanced a bit the next turn, charging the angelius with the stalker and slicing and dicing it, he charged my druids with his infantry (I moved Krueger to a position away from them to setup an assasination run on vayl instead of feating and zapping a load of the infantry) which cleared out a good few druids. He had scored a scenario point, game however ended with the tornado from Krueger hitting the ravagore, throwing it into Vayl knocking them down and the talker charging in and autohitting. Think it was an uphill struggle for Jan, only because at 25 points one model in my army protected almsot all my army against so much of his, but was a good game, and I did feel that I'd have to position correctly a lot to keep the edge for either clearing out stuff and scoring scenario points, or setting up the assassination. Look forward to a rematch sometime. Though I have played v legion a lot so yeah have things in mind for not losing so badly against them all the time .

Hadn't realised that I hadn't updated stuff since last week, thought I had put the quick rundown of the tourny up. (Backup gaming pleadge) Here we go, copied and pasted in all its glory!
So latest news, Not the WTC yesterday! 4 round 35 points tournament, nice and fast games. Kicking myself. A lot. Dunno quite what happened to my brain but it didn't want to wake up I think! Lists I took along were roughly the two 35 points lists i had been leaning towards, though at the last minute they got shaken up, and as it was last minute, no practice with them. As it was stuck to one list, the last game was going to have a bit of a change however dropped the wrong card down for caster. Damn them having both the same name and me too busy chatting to my opponent to notice! Still was a fun game.
List one. PKrueger Feral Stalker Gorax Gallows Grove Druids with UA Min bloodtrackers with nuala
List two: EKrueger Wilder Stalker Ghetorix Gorax Druids and UA Stones and UA
Game one, Rob Ivey, Menoth.
This list appeared to be dude spam, and had dropped Krueger1 into it. As it was, it was havily skewed to armour containing Durst, flameguard and UA, 2 reckoners, a devout and 4 paladins. As Rob had been playing in the DS slow grow I knew he had been honing this list and getting it painted up very nicely. I made a tonne of mistakes in this game, possibly tunnel visioned was the first. I charged a reckoner with a stalker, intending to hit it a couple of times, splat a falmeguard and lightning strike away. Remembered: That's what I wanted to do, to cast the animus through Krueger and leave Krueger out as a tempting failed assassination target for Durst setting up a counter slapping. Failed to remember, this turn: Hit the bloody flame guard and sprint away. So yeah that didn't work. Rob said he learned a lesson a the following turn though. He took the dangled assassination, failed to hit enough times and I transferred enough that Krueger was ready to slap back.
Now my plan here was: Primal the gorax, walk up to durst put him on his ass. Stab once with Krueger, then autohit consectutive attacks from his spear if that failed. Finish off with the feral in walking distance with reach from lightning tendrils. I had also planned the sprinted away feral to be part of this. He wasn't. See above. So started with some druid spelling in combat for the force push to line up durst, one missed but had pushed him enough. Walked the gorax up, no fury on it, forced a power attack (forgot it was free from being damaged) boosted to hit. Failed. So, do I then buy a couple of attacks to ping health off? No, I forget (we rolled afterward the game to see it'd have done it easily) I move on (stupidly). Importantly if the gorax had hit what happened next wouldn't have. Feral walks up, hits, takes a retalitory strike. Confident theres enough boxes I'm still feeling confident. Rob rolled a 5 for damage spiral, spirit went. After initials, it was Kruegers turn, boosted to hit the initial attack, done some damage, bought more attacks at boosted damage due to Dursts armour, left him on 4 HP. Time was called around there, Rob taking the game on control points. It's important to note that when I realised during setup how skewed to armour rob was I knew the druids force bolts and them and the bloodtrackers would need sacrificing to stop control points being gained and try to win by assassination, Rob was on for the win if he hadn't been lured out to end the game there and then. At the end of the day he took first place, I joked he must have been glad my brain wasn;t in gear, he agreed. Glad he went on to win all his games, he has put a lot of effort into learning durst and getting the army painted to an extremely lovely standard.
Result: My brain needs something. Anything. A kick maybe? Style loss Big Grin
Game Two Ross Baker, Circle Orboros.
Once again K1 dropped, both Ross lists had a weakness to it. He dropped Grayle, pureblood, stalker, moonhound, blood pack, min wolves of orboros, stone with UA. Wasn;t worried aside from the bloodpack and the ability from spells for them to ignore LOS and blocking models. Planned to have Krueger hide behind a wall which was just outsie the zone, moving forward only to feat and hold onto transfers that turn then pop back. Guess what my screw up forgetting was this game eh? Turn one, advance deployed bloodtrackers walked forward, javelined the enemy objective off the table, then reformed back, druids went up, popped clouds, counter magic, Krueger and battlegroup advanced to behind the wall. Ross then advanced most of his army running. Next turn was the odd javelin/force bolt with my stuff staying in the zone threatening control points unless he came foward. His turn by mostly runs. So, my turn moved up, popped feat. Blood pack took a fair amount of damage but no kills, moon hound wounded, wolves pretty much destroyed, prey moving to the bloodpack. He went, a stalker charging in, missing bloodtrackers with all the attacks, the pureblood advanced to spray, boosting attack and damage on Krueger, managing to wound him, transferred to the gorax. So my turn. Had the stalker hit where applicable, forgot to reform the bloodtrackers. Mistake one, though not an important one. Feral went up slapped the pureblood silly, finished the stalker to make sure though instead of slapping the pureblood silly. Forgot to move Krueger at all. Back behind said wall. Didn't move druids either for some reason, or bother activating the Gorax from what I remember. Yep screwed up bad. Ross threw the feral, hitting Krueger (forgot to check range on the throw see if it was possible to hit as well here) Krueger hit, some infantry cleared away in front of him and with 3 seconds left on his turn he managed the assassination.
Result: wondering what illegal substance my brain needs to get going style loss.
On the lunch break chatted to a guy interested in starting up in WMH, helped him see what he'd need to start up with, his options (battlebox, 2 player box, all in one army boxes) bit about the factions, the basics of playing how it's easy to learn, tougher to master etc. Was a decent wee hour spent chatting.
So post lunch, game 3 v Ban Salmon, Legion of Everblight.
Ben made the right drop into me I feel, putting down Vayl2, 2x angelius, spawning vassel, full raptors, Anyyssa Ryvall, sorceress on hellion and 2 shepards. He deployed heavily onto his friendly zone side, I faced that with infantry and put the battlegroup centric. He went first advancing aggresivly, I advanced catiously, aware the raptors are pretty handy shots, moved Krueger and battlegroup up to tag the friendly zone. His turn two he advanced up, missed some shots, tagged the sorceress into his zone and put up the nothing of mine can shoot within 8" of it. With the range of 7" on the bloodtrackers I was understandably sad about that. Then he charged in with both angelius, one targeting the gorax, the other a druid. The druid one splatted a druid the gorax one wounded the gorax with an initial then his turn ran out. He didn;t at this point take the xtension, which I think would have changed the game as that bast as refuged. My turn the feral took out the angelius on the left, clearing it out of his zone and the stalker took out the other by the gorax. Krueger stayed in the friendly zone, furthest edge over to the centre in order to put deflection up, as there was nothing to threaten him the next turn barring Vayl's spells, whoch handily would fail due to counter magic. The druids fell back a little to use the counter and put up clouds and the bloodtrackers fell back to not lose them for nothing. Next turn his raptors advanced and took the odd pot shot taking a bloodtracker down, sorceress advancing up again to limit their return fire in my turn. He finally also got a ashredder out and attempted to chomp the feral, failing to hit. My turn I was on four control points, used the stalker to destroy his objective and feral/druids/trackers and Krueger to clear out the zone.
Result: A surprising win for me. I think as it was afternoon the brain had woken up.
Game 4: Tom Uden, Menoth.
Menoth again, meant to throw Ekrueger down for a change, put PKruegers card to the top instead, meh, fair enough, the list was seeing use. Faced off against Feora 2! With her he had some Zealots, a mechanic, choir, redeemer (which got preyed and he was very careful with, putting it to the back of the board), templar vanquisher and the other jack I cannot remember, possibly the reckoner again I think. We deployed pretty central, Tom spent opening of each of his turns firing rockes, seeing where they deviated. I ran the bloodtrackers up intent on sticking the reckoner with javelins, which in turn had him keep it at the back edge most of the game. His jacks he kept close to Feora2 (with a spell active for more armour, which I kept forgetting about, sound familiar?) and ran hi Zalots up. I advanced carefully behind the druid screen with the battlegroup, getting Krueger into contact with my flag by turn two to take a point, feating but failing to finish the zealot unit so the last man managed to contest in Tom's turn. Couple of turns later the redeemer was down, Feora the prey Target and in range of the feral. Weighing my options up, I k now I needed to force pull a jack out the way of her. Remember the armour spell thing? I didn't. I used the trackers first, which failed to do much due to the bonus armour, force bolts the jack away them weighed up options. I could tornado Feora down but if the die came up higher than a one for distance thrown, the feral wouldn;t finish the job off that turn. Krueger was on fire by this point, another spiked fire roll and a beast was gone, his jacks were in a good position to stop the druids, one of the wolves and the trackers from attempting it next turn. I went for the shoot at her option. Two chain lightning spells missed, kruegers shooting attack hit, done some damage. Up stepped the Feral with a charge. Missed initials. Bought more attacks. Missed them. Tom was shocked. My head was in my hands. At this point time was called, but would been interesting to have another full turn to see how Tom would have played his turn out though and see if I could somehow take Feora out or hit 5 CPS.
Result win by 1CP to 0, at dice down.
So a good day overall, though despite the mental, remember stuff all the previous fortnight (mainly use the bloody animi first!) my brain rebelled, slightly kicking myself. Went 2 for 2 which for a first tourny was better than I expected. Annoyed at myself a bit, with forgetting steps and worse forgetting the things I learned from the early games, see what your opponent can do to kill your caster, protect them from it. Game two, moving Kreuger behind the wall would have upped his Def to 21v throws and bloodpack and been out of Grayles charge range, which was indeed the plan after the feat, brain went. Forgetting additionall attacks on assassination was a moment I could have slapped myself and the final game despite being told each turn the spell she was upkeeping, forgetting about it as there w=no counter down for it (same with the raptors game 3 with stealth, counter didn't move with them)
Still there is always next time, any future 35 points tournys I'd certainly go to as it was a very relaxed atmosphere and well ran, games went fast an hopefully next time will play someone I don't have the option to play regularly Wink
So from here my plans are: Play the Krueger 2 list now, at 35 points See about expanding both lists to 50 points, the first especially as I like it and think it'd be a good one to expand first. Paint more of the things!!! Go to more tournaments Get the events I would like to run hammered out and booked in at Dark Sphere.

Now the reason anyone bothers looking at anything I do, the pics of badly painted minis Finished the winter argus last week, done another two almost till the end, however those two ended up either darker or brighter than I wanted them respectivly so again, detol bath. Here's the argus I decided meh, might as well keep: Again, gums, tongue eyes etc small things to get done and fur feathered texture to be done at a later date, good enough to ove on from so I have the illusion of painted minis (even if I won't use this bugger!) So painting pledge done, another argus, will get the other done after I finish PKaya repaint, here's a WiP:

Put the vibrate setting to use though. DRYBRUSHING!!!! Get your minds out the gutter!!! Shifting stones sprayed, washed and drybrushed up, glowy blue stuff to be done when I'm less shaky

Apparently it's pledge time, and not just to help the wooden stuff shine. So, done the club thing, and put an early one in as Tom said they were weekly. So paint Ghetorix is the next one, have a done a stalker to tabletop too, though varnish misted it up today! Pics of that when it is sorted. So stretch goals for the painting: PKrueger, Gorax, second Argus.
No doubt i'll rip through some painting and endup doing different stuff to those three things.

Uniform grey from army painter is a darker/mid tone grey its apparently a very light bluegrey when painted on. Screw you army painter, I wanted the colour it comes out or darker.
