Soooooo Khador.
First thoughts are this looks like an army based around the red army - plenty of infantry backed by some seriously heavy jacks.
For week 1 I'll keep it simple and put a jack together

Well I'm off to a good start. Spriggan built and ready for undercoating so I'm ahead of schedule. Hurrah. It won't last.
Any warmahorde expert (Stevo?) got an opinion on whether the second jack should be a devestator, demolisher or another spirggan?

Any warmahorde expert (Stevo?) got an opinion on whether the second jack should be a devestator, demolisher or another spirggan? Hey Mike... Nice start! Spriggan is an excellent utility Jack and you'll get a lot of success out of it! For the next one I'd advise against the Second Spriggan as there will be hugely dimishing returns. The other 2 are quite defensive pieces but are excellent - they are both Rock hard to kill until you open them to make an attack. For that reason I prefer the devestator as the temptation to open it is less! To make best use of them you should keep them closed to stay alive to contest scenarios, and find fun ways to abuse bulldoze! (There are many!) Have fun!!! Jack H is a fantastic Khador player... He's around Thursday so you should chat to him if you are here.

Hi Mike, welcome to the Motherland! I've played Khador for a long while, and I can definitely say that the strength of the faction is not really about the 'jacks... Most warcasters can run one warjack very well, and a lot of casters have a spell that will buff them. However... Because Focus is such a limited commodity it is very rare to have more than one in a list - especially as the infantry choices are so so good!!
Spriggan is a great first choice, good with a lot of casters, the flares it can drop will support your ranged infantry and as Stevo mentioned, Bulldoze is surprisingly amazing! Well worth owning a Devastator or Demolisher as you can take them with casters who don't buff jacks, and still have a high armour guy to stand in scenario zones.
Happy to have a chat on Thursday about the other options. There's a lot you can do with the faction so it might be best to pick a warcaster and start there.

ESorscha is a very solid caster to start with! A good all rounder. She's quite easy to accidentally get killed, as she has lots of good spells that she wants to spend all her focus on! But you will have fun discovering just how busted Iron Flesh is

Tonight saw my first proper game. I say proper it was only 15 points. e-Sorscha, the winter guard death squad less capatin birdseye and a spriggan took on Gary's circle. He had the starter set caster, a mino, a werewolf and some blender dude that shoots vultures or some such.
Things started well. Gary backed off, worried about my superior firepower before changing his approach and charging at me. The spriggan got the first kill, catching the werewolf and ramming his lance deep inside his......heart. With the followers of the sphere under pressure Gary pressed his attack, killing a couple of winter guard but seeing the mino and his caster taking a beating in return. He launched a hail mary attack to take down my caster but surely the mass of winter guard between the mino and the caster would protect her.
'I trample' 'What??Oops!'
Yes big things can run through infantry squads to get at targets behind them. Guess I hadn't read the rules properly and that led to one dead caster. Oops.
What did I learn? The spriggan gets stuff done but the low speed is a problem. Although the game screams out for aggression I need to defend my caster more. For grown up games with bigger points totals I'll be needing a wardog and a more defensive jack. Until next time.

I've had my initial mess around with the faction and I've already completed what was going to be my first pledge - building a jack. So, what next? I'll have a whole two weeks to get something done but I think its best to quote small and aim high. With life getting in the way of gaming (and even going to the pub) recently I'm not too sure how much time I'll have to devote to this in the near future.
I've already established I need work on keeping my caster alive. The obvious choices are a defensive jack and a dog to boost her defensive abilities. I think I'll go for the dog to start with.
Pledge 1: Build a dog and undercoat it.
What can possibly go wrong with that?

Two more games played. Two crushing defeats. The question is...why? So far I'm learning the game but I'm learning to lose not how to win. I've had a beast trample over a defensive infantry cloud, been pushed out of formation to set up a killer charge and had a big beast come round the corner of a ruck to take out the caster. My lack of pace has really hurt. This needs to be addressed.
I was running two jacks today, to counter the problems I'd faced before with blocking big stuff. With hindsight that might not have been a good idea as a defensive jack won't get its points back - although that may be different in a scenario game. Looking at 25 points Commissar Birdseye (or Joe as he's also known) needs to get on the pitch to boost the winter guard and make them as effective as they can be. That means dropping the defensive jack. The spare points allows me to include some widowmakers and an extra three points of stuff. But what should I use with those three points? As an alternative for seven points I could look to bring in the cavalry or prehaps take some pikes....decisions, decisions.

I think using more terrain and playing a scenario might change things around. I think that at lower games a lot of things are a bit bent out of shape

Update time.
The hound is built and the undercoat is drying. I'm ahead of schedule for the first pledge with just over a week to go. The next pledge will need to be game based I think so for now I can use the bank holiday to get some paint on some of the figures.
On that note I'm using a white undercoat for the winter guard rather than my usual black. The colours have come out brighter but I not sure the finish is quite right, still when the models are painted it may (hopefully) all come together.

Pledge 2
Pledge 1 was a success. The hound was built and sprayed; all I need to do now is finish painting it. But that wasn't part of the deal so I still passed the first test. Result.
Time for pledge 2. I'm splitting my time between warmachine and x-wing at the moment, which helps keep things interesting so I need to be fairly disciplined when setting my goals and carrying them out. For the last fortnight I was working on a painting pledge (yes I know it didn't take the entire 2 weeks) so I'll do a gaming one this time.
I'm sticking with the promise little and try to over deliver approach so pledge number 2 is.......
Play a 35 point battle. I'd like to try out the scenarios but I'll be happy to get a full size game in.

Good stuff Mike. I'm going to a 35 point event at darksphere this Sunday and I'd love to practice 35 point games. Down Thursday?
